I’m the proud mother of two children. Both of my pregnancies were high risk, complicated by preeclampsia. My beautiful daughter, Allie, was a preemie. She weighed 3 pounds, 11 ounces and spent 2 months in the NICU. I still cry when I think about those stressful, painful days. She survived, and so did I.
After that experience, I made a vow to help other pregnant women, especially those with complications. Following my son’s birth (he was a little early, but healthy), I wrote Eating for Pregnancy: The Essential Nutrition Guide and Cookbook for Today’s Mothers-to-Be.
GlucoseMama is a continuation of my mission to serve women. I firmly believe that the health of our planet depends on healthy mothers! I love you all, and I’d love to hear from you!
Though I have been a practicing Obstetrician and Gynecologist for many years, a baby’s first breath never ceases to amaze me. At every birth, I am deeply moved by the amazing events that have allowed for that moment to occur. Our bodies are amazing! It is incredible to think what huge physiologic changes we go through in order to grow and sustain a baby. We truly are Goddesses.
Through my career, I have seen many miraculous pregnancies and births. I have also at times felt helpless when the unexpected has happened to those who are expecting. My mission has been to empower women with the knowledge and options available to them to have healthy pregnancies and babies.
Gestational diabetes can be a significant cause of complications for both mother and babies. The vast majority of these complications can be avoided with education, empowerment and encouragement. GlucoseMama allows us to do just that and to have fun along the way. Just as important, GlucoseMama also allows us to minimize interventions and medications.
